Planned Improvement for the School and District

It is the goal of East Coloma School District #12 to meet the diverse needs of the students.  These needs are met because of the support and dedication we gain from our staff members, families, and community resources.  The staff members of East Coloma Elementary School continue to model the example of being life-long learners.  Staff members seek out opportunities which allow them to learn ways to better serve the students and family members of the school district.  We are fortunate to have many family members who help within the school and Community Club.  The parents support their child’s education by working with their child and keeping open the lines of communication within the school.  We are also excited to work with outside resources; including; YWCA, Rotary, AmeriCorps, United Way, and numerous area business entities.  The success of our school is dependent upon a strong relationship among all constituents of the entire school district and community.

The 2004-2005 School Improvement Plan includes the following two specific goals:

·                     Student math performance will be improved across the curriculum.  A minimum of 70% of students at tested grade levels will meet or exceed ISAT standards.

·                     Student reading performance will be increased across the curriculum.  A minimum of 70% of students at tested grade levels will meet or exceed ISAT standards.

When school district percentages are compared to the percentages for the State of Illinois in the Meets and Exceeds categories, an analysis of the 2004 ISAT data reveals the following grade-level results:

Grade 3:          District percentages exceeded State percentages in all three testing areas of reading, mathematics, and writing.

Grade 4:          District percentages exceeded State percentages in both testing areas of science and social science.

Grade 5:          District percentages exceeded State percentages in the testing areas of reading and mathematics.  District percentages are below State percentages in the testing area of writing.

Grade 7:          District percentages exceeded State percentages in both testing areas of science and social science.

Grade 8:          District percentages exceeded State percentages in the testing areas of reading and writing.  District percentages are below State percentages in the testing area of mathematics.

The 2004 School Report Card for East Coloma School District #12 indicates that

Adequate Yearly Progress is being made in the areas of reading and mathematics.
