Good morning,
We wanted to update families that the power came back on at the school. Thank you.
Did you watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade? Fourth grade had a whole unit about it! We wrapped it up in STEAM by creating our own balloons to fly through the parade route...robot style!

On Monday, 6th and 7th grade students practiced some engineering skills in science class. They were given 5 sheets of paper, 18in of masking tape, and about 25 minutes to build the strongest "Thanksgiving Table" to hold as many textbooks as possible. The winning team ended up stacking 62 textbooks on top of their paper table! That is approximately 93lbs! Well done!!!

On Halloween, 3rd grade got a special STEAM session! Their objective? Launch pumpkins as far as they could across the classroom using catapults! Well...candy pumpkins at least...
There are real punkin chunkin festivals across the United States!

Kindergarten tested out their engineering skills in STEAM last Friday! Their task was to build the tallest flagpole to honor our veterans! We used Pinky, the Wayground Pinata, as a tool to measure the height of the flagpoles.

Our band and choir performed a special concert for Veterans Day last Thursday. We were lucky enough to have the high school choir join us as well!
We would like to share our heartfelt appreciation for all veterans.

Kindergarten listened to the poem "5 Little Pumpkins" in which the pumpkins sit on a gate! Their task in STEAM was to build a gate for the pumpkins to sit on using clothespins and popsicle sticks.

In October, first grade got to combine bones with coding during STEAM! They had to code the Kaibot to put the body parts where they belonged on the skeleton!

7th graders had a lab where they learned about natural and synthetic materials. Students used the natural materials of sodium alginate and calcium chloride to create a chemical reaction that made a synthetic material which is used in medicine and as imitation caviar.

6th grade students had fun today learning about chemical reactions and thermal energy! We learned that temperature affects the glow sticks' amount of glow as well as how long it glowed. The glow stick in the cold water glowed dimmer, but for longer. The glow stick placed in the hot water glowed much brighter, but did not last as long as the cold water reaction.

Congratulations to our September Students of the Month!

Our students loved watching the Rock Falls High School Marching Band perform their award-winning show! Seeing former ECN students made it extra special!

Ask kindergarten students what happens when you mix vinegar with an antacid tablet! They had a blast doing this experiment in STEAM!

Both Art Club groups worked on unique self portraits this week. 1st & 2nd showed us their symmetry skills while 3th - 5th shared the interests that "complete" them! Great work!
What an exciting day in 2nd grade STEAM! Our students are already coding, and today they enhanced their skills by playing with Finchbots! They had a fantastic time customizing movements, lights, designs, and sounds!

Preschool had a blast doing all sorts of experiments and activities during their color unit!

First graders have been studying insects! Today, they got to eat some! Well, edible ones at least!

Our 3th-5th art club started working on a reverse perspective project on Thursday. They're creating their own optical illusions!
Monday, September 15 is Dot Day! Kindergarten students listened to the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds with added sound effects from Novel Effect before creating their own dots and viewing them in augmented reality with Quiver Vision!

First and second graders kicked off Art Club on Tuesday by creating BLOB MONSTERS! They learned about the color wheel and how to create new colors!
